Yet another mandatory install? - Bioshock 2 for PS3 requires a 5gig mandatory install

LMAO PS3 is all about mandatory installs, firmware updates and game patch downloads. Bioshock 2 for PS3 is confirmed to have a 5gig mandatory install.

How many mandatory installs must a gamer be subject to before his harddrive is full? Why should a gamer be forced to choose what game's he has room for on his harddrive? It's the Sophie's Choice of video game decisions.

So much for blu-ray having 25GB storage when it cant even keep up with the read rate that games need.

Pathethic....I have 8 games for my PS3 on an 80gb model and I only have about 35gb left from forced installs and patches....Its turning into a joke.

LOL I have an elite and I still have over 80gb-90gb left and I have loads of games for it

Same here I have 2 accounts on my Elite...Offline account (which I dont use any more) that has about 15 games on it and my online account that has about 10-15 and yet I have 93gbs left!! That includes demos and vids.

I wonder what chap thought it would be great for gamers to be forced to do mandatory installs instead of being given the choice

Very true. The blu-ray is almost pointless. The only thing it's really used for is so the disks hold so much but you technically aren't playing the games from the disks themselves. Seriously, eventually games may just be sold on memory sticks.

That is true.

i know i bring this up alot but ill take disc swappping anyday then madnitory installs. at least thats what logic tells me (30sec > 30min)

Whilst that is indeed true, it was the same factor with Microsoft and HDMI, a console released back in November 2005, where no electrical piece of hardware was using HDMI and the 360 was crucified by Sony diehard zealots.

So I need to ask the zealots, which argument would they stand with? Date and time matter (to defend PS3) or it doesn't matter (to hate on the 360 because they are clutching for straw)?

I personally, believe date and time matter, so I agree the PS3 2x BD was a bad choice but one they could not do anything about. However BD is not needed for gaming and in essence they could have done the same thing MS does, DVD9, in almost all cases the 360 variants of games look and play better and they do it on DVD9!

There's still the argument that 2x BD reads just as fast as DVD9 @ 8x though! I believe there's more to it than just slower read speeds than MS' 12x drives (which are actually capable of 16x but are firmware locked).

It's Sony's arrogance and needing to trojan horse a format medium which ended us with BD, now I also know not every PS3 game needs HDD installs, but that only shows me that the PS3 is a DEV unfriendly console, again Sony's arrogance. Their mentality is "Why make it easy to dev for when WE are Sony"?

BD is good for HD movies and all, I own a PS3 and enjoy the handful of games I think it's worthy for, but at the same time Sony knew where they wanted to go by way of Blu-ray, Sony are not the same guys who brought us the PS1 or even the PS2, they fired that guy lol.
