I love how much effort Microsoft puts into marketing their biggest IP. Heres all the non-gameplay vids that have ever aired.

I love that ad. People can hate on Halo all they want but they can't deny that the Believe ad is awesome.

Amazing. And I got a feeling that the marketing campaign for Reach is going to get a lot better

I don't think the ads are anything special. They're not gripping and I can't stand the live-action ads.

The idea is to show that the franchise is beyond that of a mere game. They are trying to showcase the story aspect due to the gameplay aspect still taking up most of the spotlight for Halo.

It's very ironic how well they market video games because...

Don't you think most of the people who are interested in the story have the games by now? Microsoft needs to get into the market that Call of Duty is doing so well in. They need to reel in more casual shooting fans. Casual shooting fans don't care about the story, and frankly, neither do I. That's not to say that it doesn't have a deep story, but the games themselves have lousy stories that are presented in a boring fashion. The Uncharted games have a somewhat boring campaign, but the story keeps the player going, which is something I have never experienced with Halo. This looks like it will change with Reach, though.
But in any case, the market Microsoft needs to go after does not care about the story.

correct. which is why the live action trailer is being aired on tv more then anything else.

That still confuses me. You're a big Halo fan, no? You're the kind of person who would be intrigued by the live action trailers. They don't need to sell the game to you because they know you'll buy the game because you already identify with the brand and know what Bungie is capable of. However, there are people out there who don't care about story who need to be sold on the game. You said it yourself in your latest video: Halo started out as a great game and then expanded into an entire universe. So what better way to get people into the universe than to reel them in with a good game? You get them in by showing them how addictive the game is, and from there they'll develop a fondness for the story.

Well I think that ad combines the best of both worlds. The action on screen will make potential customers curious gameplay wise, the idea isnt to ruin the surprise of the game by showing it; merely hint at what it will have. There is power in being mysterious like that. Either they look it up on the internet to see what it really looks like or they buy it on that ad alone. Either way raises brand awareness.
But the music, especially the music, how the ad shows a desperate struggle for survival, fighting a losing battle........I think that ad is enough to pique someones interest in whats happening behind the game.
Either way, its hard for any one ad to showcase game and story at the same time, but that ad got pretty damn close to it, and I applaud the ad men that work for MS.

Hi, I am new here but I really think that the point of the live action trailers/ads is being missed. The point is to add background material to the main story so that the player feels as if they are totally immersed in the storyline. Yes we can do without the adverts but I for one want to see how a spartan was made. Its not about selling me the game its about hype, background and making it all feature rich. Long may it continue. I love them all and it shows that the games companies dont just want to take your cash and run. They believe in their property.
