| So I was pondering this and couldn't figure out the answer.
Spartans can take more bullets than any human. They can sprint faster than any person. They can jump higher than any person. They can survive falls no person can. However, they can't swim.
Can someone please explain why?

Yea, it's a pretty interesting question. Why do spartans sink on water?

| What if I'm roaming around Forge World all by myself? There's no war. Why can't I swim? Have you EVER seen a Spartan in a Halo game swim? | |

| Cause they weigh like 2 tons in all that armor, and swimming in a Halo game would be kinda weird. | |

| The reason you cant swim is because the devs dont allow you to do it.They didnt add that feature to the game. But canonically they would be able to swim(though with no armor)
jumping is different then swimming. The spartans armor would weight down and drag the spartans to the bottem of the ocean. But on land a spartan would be able to brace itself to jump.

Better than argueing about sales I'll tell you that. LOL, pwn3d. The UNSC clearly got lazy when it came to aquatic training. Hell, give 'em floaties. But no. The almighty Master Chief could easily be taken down by being pushed into a pool.

No time for jokes. This is serious business.

Why would the UNSC NOT give them aquatic training? Besides, aren't they supposed to be superhuman enough to carry their armor? If they can sprint long distances and jump with it, it must not be all that heavy to them. That's my point.

| You could say the same about Altair from Assassins Creed. He's a master assassin, parkour practitioner, yet he can't swim....

None of them died by drowning, FYI.

| Dude, the spartan armor IS heavy.Yes the spartans and cope with it but it isnt gonna let them swim. When your in water you sink, its not like you can stand on water like you can with land. So if spartans go in the water, their armor makes them sink. Its not that hard to comprehend

| The real question you should be asking, is why Master Chief can survive entering the atmosphere, and falling into the ground unharmed; but then gets hit with two melee attacks and dies. Or when a Grunt lights two plasma grenades and commits kamikaze and kills him. I guess that packs more of a punch than the heat from entering the atmosphere and colliding with the ground. | |

Umm chief has survived falling through the autmosphere?I dont remember that..... It would be possible though.Spartans can lock their armor Plus bringing up gameplay doesnt mean its offcially canon. If the games were 100% like the real story, the player would die so many times. But this is how all games work. It like saying "how can a jedi cut through enemies with one slash in the movies but takes multiple hits to kill an enemy with a lightsaber in the games".

actually unless they have special landing gear, spartans dont do well in atmosphere entry. In Halo First strike Spartans were forced to jump out of a pelican in low orbit to the planet Reach with no landing equipent. Sure they have hardened gel layers, near unbreakable bones, and the 500 pound armor, with energy shields, but some did die and many had serious injuries. Two melee attacks are delievered by a fellow spartan, someone with greatly enhanced strength , augmented by the MJOLNIR armor. no shit it takes 2 hits to take out a fellow spartan. a plasma grenade fries shields and melts through any alloy.....thus is an instant kill. glad to answer your questions

The UNSC clearly got lazy when it came to aquatic training. Hell, give 'em floaties. But no. The almighty Master Chief could easily be taken down by being pushed into a pool. answer - They actualy weigh about 700 - 800 pounds in all the armor coupled with their own body weight. While extremely heavy on its own, the fusion power pack on the back allows the user to move it with some ease, especially since every spartan has augmented muscles and bone density, which explains why they run faster and jump higher. answer 2 - no sales is by far the bestest topic ever answer 3 a spartans hightened strength and reflexes allow them to move freely on land but all that is useless in the water......its just weight. WHich is why it just sinks. You can exactly put your ability to jump to the test when submerged........ In the novel Ghosts of Onyx some Spartan IIIs jumped into a ocean to avoid a reactor blowing up. They had to shed their armor quickly to be able to rise to the surface and swim to shore. Also.............the game is centered on land and air combat........making water gameplay unecessary for Bungie. Next please
