Dude Sega made some horrible mistakes during their lifetime in the buisness. With there constant release of new consoles people got tired of Sega cause they always made new hardware a couple months later leaving the support they had for there previous console so basically good games would barely be found in sega systems. Sega was in debt they would've died off sooner or later Sony just speed things up of an already dying sega.
SEGA had made a loss on there net profit 5 years running, SEGA's chairman gave his shares and his own company CSK worth $695 million to SEGA

Sega did everything right with the Dreamcast. For those of us that bought Dreamcast we had the best games around. Sony's PS2 took the market away becuase Sony lied about the power of the PS2 and people skipped the Dreamcast to buy the over-hyped PS2. If it wasn't for Sony Sega would have been able to rebuild it's revenue stream with the Dreamcast, solidify it's asset, and pay off it's dept. But becuase they were betting everything on the greatest console of all time and Sony's lies convinced everyone to wait for the PS2, Sega was forced to leave the industry it helped build. Yes that's right, if you think it was all Nintendo who made gaming what it is today you wrong. If not for Sega we would never have seen gaming cross over to the mainstream.
Losing Sega as a console maker is something that will negatively effect the industry for decades to come. Just thinking about what Sega would have done this gen makes me long for the early days of Dreamcast.

First of all sega had made many mistakes even before Sony came Sega kept on releasing New consoles constantly you seem to be ignoring this why would anyone buy a Sega console if 1 year later look its a new high tech system? Sega left its fans to the dust. Even if Dreamcast was doing everything right the consumers would be to scared to buy it if a new one comes. Now back to Sony maybe they did hype up the PS2 but when it was released people will see the features so the people had the choice of saying ahh Sony hyped it i think ill just get a Dreamcast instead. So it doesn't even matter if Sony hyped it up. Thirdly Ps2 had a DVD player obviously Ps2 was the better choice. And you cant say that no mainstream games would have come you wouldn't know that so you cant bring up a point that's not factual.

I agree with Bluenose. How was the average consumer supposed to know that Sega "finally got it right" after so many years of screw ups? People knew that Sony and Nintendo don't abandon their consoles after a couple years so that's what they went with.

That's an exaggeration and had nothing to do with it. The only console Sega "abandoned" prematurely was the 32X and it wasn't a real console, just an addon to a console that had been on the market longer than the SNES. The Saturn did very well in Japan and was on the market plenty of time before the Dreamcast.
Everyone exaggerates Sega's mistakes so they can dilute Sony's role in destroying one of the godfathers of gaming.
Ever heard of bleem? They were a little company that pissed off Sony. They didn't do anything illegal so Sony destroyed them with failed law suits. Bleem! was a small company and even though they won all the court cases they didn't have the money to keep fighting and went bankrupt. How about Lik-Sang. Sony didn't like them for selling imports so they destroyed them with lawsuits. http://www.lik-sang.com/
Sony doesn't let it's competitors stay in the market if they can muscle them out. Sega, Bleem, and Lik-Sang were all victims of Sony trying to take full control of anything it sees profit in. It was lies and money that Sony used to take down Sega and they would have done the same to Nintendo if they could have. Sony wants to be a monopoly. Sega and Nintendo respected each other and even thought they were rivals they didn't try to obliterate each other. Sony has no respect for anything except money.
Here's a great video on what Sony did to bleem! Skip to 6:13 for the lawsuit history.

Lik-Sang were actually sued by Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft for selling modchips which are illegal

It was Sony's lawsuit for selling Import PSP to the UK that shut them down.
BTW, modchips aren't illegal. Pirate software is illegal, but not modchips. It is your right to do what ever you want with anything you buy, including moding your console, backing up your purchased movies or software, hell you could put your games in a toaster if you wanted. It's your right.
Sony didn't like Lik-Sang selling Japanese PSP to the UK because it got around how they wanted to sell the PSP themselves in the UK. So they sued Lik-Sang in British Courts saying it was dangerous to sell Japanese PSP in the UK becuase of the electricity outlets are different standards. Lik-Sang argued that they required all PSP sold to the UK be bundled with safe Sony brand converters, but Sony convinced the court otherwise and Lik-Sang was forced to close it's doors.
Never get on Sony's bad side, they'll find a way to destroy you, even if you didn't do anything illegal.

Saturn may have done well in Japan, but not the states. It had a $400 price tag and Sega didn't include all retailers in their surprise early launch which caused a huge backfire. I read that Walmart and KBtoys wouldn't carry any more Sega products after that because they felt betrayed. Instead giving all the shelf space to Sony and Nintendo products. Was that Sony's fault too? It's great that you enjoyed the Saturn so much, but you're in the overwhelming minority.
Sony may have sued some other companies out of existence, but what's that got to do with Sega? The bottom line is that by Christmas 2001, PS2 had a far better lineup of games then the Dreamcast. I don't buy the excuse that consumers shunned Sega because Sony lied about the graphical power of the PS2. People aren't dumb. They could tell both systems looked about the same. They just wanted the console they could play grand theft auto and watch DVDs on. And that's what they got.

Let me make this very clear. You can do whatever you want with anything you buy. If you want to mod a console to play backups so you don't risk scratching your originals, that's your right. You can smash your iPod with a a hammer if you want to disassemble your DVD player and use the parts to build a toy car. You can do anything with your property and everything you buy is your property. The worst a company can do to you for using your personal backups on a modded system is deny you service.
Mod chips are not illegal if they are sold for the purpose of using legal backups. If people pirate using a modchip that's not the fault of the modchip maker. Are we going to criminalize the manufacturing of knives becuase someone could use a knife to murder. No, and the same goes for games and movies.
We have the right to make one backup for personal use, yet companies use DRM to stop us. The word backup has nothing to do with piracy. You are legally allowed to make backups of your movies, music, games, etc. in case the original is damaged. That's the law. So the DMCA only applies to that which only has the sole purpose of piracy, not legal backups. If anything DRM should be illegal becuase it infringes my right to make personal backups. Besides none of this has anything to do with what Sony did to bleem! or Lik-Sang. Bleem! had unbreakable security so you couldn't use copied PSone games and Lik-Sang was taken down for imports not mod chips.

Sony buying exclusives to screw Sega out of multiports is not Sega's fault. All it proves is developers/publishers were willing to sell out to Sony's deep pockets when the real gamers had Dreamcasts next to their TVs even if they had PS2s sitting next to them. Oh and watching movies on a PS2 has nothing to do with video games. But then again PS3 fantards do watch Blu-Rays more than play games so maybe Sony fans aren't gamers at all.

I had more fun with my Saturn than my Playstation and more fun with my Dreamcast than my PS2. But Sony muscled Sega out of the market and now all that's left is a broken company that only recently has started turning things around for the better.
Anyone who had the opportunity to own, but passed on the bliss that is the Dreamcast should be ashamed.
So SOny did buy publishers to make their system successful well that's business! One day Apple, Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft may be obsolete to a new company! It happens and like all the facts i stated before which you didnt counter it was also Sega fault from there previous mistakes. Now lets get back on topic please.

lol You're right, dude. All the "real gamers" were playing Sonic Adventure while the causal soccer moms were the ones into GTAIII. It makes perfect sense now.
I'll say it again, anyone who had the opportunity to own, but passed on the bliss that is the Dreamcast should be ashamed.
Sonic Adventure is just one classic out of dozens the Dreamcast had before the PS2 even hit the market. In the PS2's first year it had shit for games so anyone who had a PS2 and refused to even look at the Dreamcast should have even considered themselves gamers.
