What should Elder Scrolls IV replace? Should it? Empty
PostSubject: What should Elder Scrolls IV replace? Should it?   What should Elder Scrolls IV replace? Should it? EmptyWed Jan 19, 2011 8:52 pm

Hey, I'm buying these games with my Xbox 360:

Gears of War 2
Halo: Reach
The Orange Box
Left 4 Dead 2
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Fallout 3

And I have 6 dollars and 10 cents (all these games + xbox 360 + second controller + 12 month Xbox LIVE +1600 MS Points for BF: Vietnam=$594.90) left in my budget. And I wanted one more game; Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I want it because my 2 favorite genres are sandbox, shooters, and unrealistic-setting (AKA space, medieval, apocalypse, Western, maybe even 40s if it's unrealistic enough) games.ES4 iss medieval and sandbox, which is why I want it. I haven't played any other ES games.

Should Oblivion replace anything in this list? Take in mind:
Gears of War 2, Halo: Reach and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 are LOCKED, meaning it's ES4 vs. Left 4 Dead 2 vs. Fallout 3 v. Orange Box for 3 rounds
I enjoy long lasting and fun games
I hate crashing, minor bugs are fine but having to restart my Xbox is annoying as fuck
If ES4 was great in 2006 but isn't relevant now, than forget it (Zelda: A Link to the Past may be the best game in the planet, but it isn't relevant anymore.
Gameplay should be more important than story (why I perferred Gears of War over Mass Effect)

Meaning if ES4 is better than either L4D2 or Fallout 3 or Orange Box, lasts a long time, does not crash, is relevant, and has good gameplay, than say why and if I should replace L4D2 or Fallout 3 for it.

Edit: If Just Cause 2 is a better sandbox than ES4 and a better overall game than L4D2/FO3, then I'm getting that. And is Borderlands any better than The Orange Box?

NO, I DO NOT OWN THE ORANGE BOX FOR PC.
Also, Borderlands

I don't recommend Oblivion at all, but if you're for sure going to then I'd have to say Gears of War 2. And even then it's just a matter of one game being worse than the other.

Because it's not a good RPG whatsoever save for the Dark Brotherhood side mission or a mod called Nehrim.

Ok, LOL, why is it not good?

Do you consider something like Fallout 3 a good RPG?

Contrived storyline, horrible environments (literally just green grass and dungeons pretty much), enemies scale with you, combat feels mechanical and unimmersive, bland armor design and I don't like the leveling system (that is leveling each stat rather than just doing quests and killing shit, but that's just me).

No, I don't like Fallout 3 either. Same issues.

I hate that. Instead of leveling affecting everything as a whole such as Pokemon, you have 17 fucking different stats. Too confusing.

Yeah, the reason my neighbor told me Gears of War 2 was a better GOTY contender than Fallout 3 was because Fallout 3 was one huge barren wasteland. I played it for a while and immediately went like 'hype wut' because it got boring. I heard New Vegas was livelier.

Oh, well. I'll tell my friend to let me borrow New Vegas. I guess I'm just gonna have to save money (sighs at the thought of saving money).

Yeah I'd definitely rent or borrow before buying. I'm in the minority of people who see Bethesda games for what they really are so.

Oooh, Ok, let's turn this into a Bestheda make-fun thread Very Happy.

'ACTIVISION, EA, AND THQ MERGE ALL COMPANIES TO PRODUCE BEST GAME ON PLANET. BESTHEDA CONFIRMED FOR VOICE ACTING...

---- 2 weeks later ----

APPROXIMATELY 14 AND A HALF SECONDS AFTER COMPLETION OF THE VOICE ACTING, ALL THREE PUBLISHERS AND THEIR RESPECTIVE DEVELOPING COMPANIES GO BANKRUPT.'

Haha that's unfortunate. I'd love to hear his reasoning.

I don't know why this bugs me so much too... I heard great things about it but then you actually start playing it's just another Fantasy WRPG (shitty leveling and everything looks like New Zealand). I get why stuff like Xena and the LOTR trilogy are filmed there, but why do most games with a fantasy setting have to look like motherfucking New Zealand? Only game that has had that setting and I've actually enjoyed it is Baldur's Gate.

Some games age badly, some games are still fresh no matter how old they are. Oblivion aged terribly IMO. Only way to keep a game like that fresh is to mod the shit out of it (which is impossible with the console versions).

Yeah, it aged pretty horribly. Most games do nowadays, though. It's a shame.

Aging is a problem. It's why I'm on the fence about The Orange Box.
