Just compare the difference between xbox and xbox 360. so much was put into this gen by Microsoft and last gen they barely tried. You have to wonder what was their game plan. I am thinking they just wanted to get into the ace and then go hard the 2nd time. What do you think?

I think Microsoft wanted to break into the gaming industry, but not stake too much on it if it didn't work out. They needed to get their foot in the door and that's what the Xbox and Halo did for them. That's why they dropped support for the Xbox and went full speed with the Xbox 360.
With each generation MS climbs higher toward it's rightful place as king of the hill.

Actually they dropped Xbox because the royalties MS was paying to Nvidia and Intel was keeping Xbox from ever becoming profitable. MS has a three step plan. How do you take down a console dynasty like Sony? First you get your foot in the door and your name established in the console market (Xbox). Then you take popular 3rd party exclusives that are synonomous with Sony and get them on your console to further establish yourself and build strong 3rd party relationships and support (360). 3rd stage is start rolling out new exclusive IPs along with the strong 3rd party support you have mustered (Next Xbox). Now that MS has strong 3rd party support and has established strong 3rd party relationships I believe they will build up their internal development next generation and we will start seeing new IPs as well as the ones that are already existing and successful. And their online service will evolve as well obviously.

Nvidia and Intel owned the IP and the fab for their chips and were price gauging MS so there was no way to bring down the production costs of the GPU and CPU. MS isnt in that situation with the 360 tech.

Why were Nvidia and Intel pulling that BS?
