- I think the gameplay style is unique and fun. The multiplayer is very simple, and the level design is fantastic (Bungie is a master of the craft). The Forge mode that was added in Halo 3 lets you construct your own maps and game types, allowing you to play beyond the realm of traditional Halo. I've played in recreations of Indiana Jones temples, a first-person version of Pong, a Boom Blox variant, and a lot of other cool games. Bungie is even improving on Forge and Custom Games, as well as adding a customizable Firefight mode to Reach.
I never cared for the story. I always thought it was presented poorly in the games, which is why I was never drawn into the universe, which I would imagine is great.

Valkyria Chronicles !!?? That was a pretty good game. I didn't love it like most people did, but I've gotta respect Sega for releasing a unique JRPG. I can agree, I thought the gameplay was a bit TOO simple but oh well, I still wish Bungie had maybe considered making an entire game around Forge making a FPS version of LBP. Z:P

Don't forget, LittleBigPlanet is, and always will be, a platformer at heart, just like how Halo will always be an FPS (Halo Wars was an exception).

I mean, I like other games, but even mass effect was just "go here, kill saren" with a lot of talking Its bigger than that. Every shooter story has you killing someone. But in Mass Effect, your main goal is to stop the collectors. Not just killing Saran. That is just a part. The main goal has always been to stop the Reapers, the collectors are just possessed by the Reaper mind, just like Saren was disrupted by Sovereign (the reaper in ME1). Saren was not the main enemy in ME1, just a plot-line to expand the story.

| What makes Halo great as a whole is that it raises the bar for console gaming. It has amazing controls, and the game itself is no "simplified version" of PC FPSes. Back in the days, Medal of Honor for the PSX was considered good AI, but in PC standards, it's crap. But for Halo's AI it's beyond amazing for console standards, and PC standards, it's still probably or is better than some of those PC shooters that were out for its time.
Campaign was amazing. Probably the best 10 levels I've ever played in a campaign (Halo: combat Evolved), and it just had so many set pieces that were memorable and the gunplay was just top-notch. The other Halo campaign games are great too, but nothing compared to the first game. Some people say Halo was the first with the regen shield, while some may disagree, if Halo didn't invent the things that it's known for, atleast it perfected those features and it gives more developers confidence to try them out instead of relying on health/armor + multiple weapons settings.
Ask any MLG multiplayer fanatic, and they will say is the Halo games are made for being competitive multiplayer. I'm no multiplayer expert, but I guess it's just Bungie has a lot of knowledge of creating a good multiplayer experience.

Fixed. Most of the hate it gets is hardly justifible. I guess if you hate FPS's in general then Halo wouldn't be your game. But compared to other FPS's Halo is one of a kind and there are so many good things about it that it's hard to HATE it. And I wouldn't count jealousy from COD/PS3 fanboys as hate either?

Right, but even then would you say that you HATE Halo? Because a 78-85 is "alright-good". I like it. So that's what I'm getting at. The reason why Halo is so great is simple. There isn't a big enough reason in the franchise to hate it. There are those that love it, those that like it, and then those that wouldn't mind playing it. The series hasn't been milked to death like Call of Duty, each Halo game gives a fair amount of content for the money you pay (yes TRF , even Halo ODST has a fair package when you consider the Halo Mythic disc). The gameplay is fairly rich and unique compared to other FPS's. Etc. So when you REALLY think about it. The ONLY people that DESPISE Halo are PS3 fanboys/Call of Duty fanboys, OR people who generally don't like First Person Shooters. This is also why Halo's sales are always so big....whether most people like it or love it, there is certain appeal for it. And even those who generally don't like FPS's will atleast be tempted to rent it to see what all the fuss is about.

I'll admit that ODST is good as a gateway into the series because of the multiplayer. Although someone who gets into the Halo series via ODST may think that all of the campaigns are as bad as ODST's and never try them. I never complained about the value of the game. I just complain about how fucking terrible it is.

Don't ever let marines drive a warthog while you are on it. The reviewers however have stated that the AI (both enemy and team) is generally pretty good. I think I read a few reviews that said it was the hardest Halo game yet even when in co-op mode since the difficulty scales up with more people.

I thought the new gameplay elements were refreshing and the general storytelling was great. The ending sucked though.
