IGN also did a vid generally the same as this.
Halo has greatly influenced the industry and this vid proves it.

Half of the things had been done before. Dual analog? They just said the Timesplitters did it first. The two-weapon thing wasn't invented by Halo as far as I know. I've seen it in games released before Halo: CE. Halo 2 didn't invent console multiplayer, just popularized it, although I guess Matchmaking is something. I can't say I know what game brought Matchmaking to the industry. Yeah, Bungie brought custom content and films and whatnot to consoles with Halo 3, but they didn't invent it or anything.
So the only ones I don't know about are Matchmaking and regenerating health. Halo did revolutionize the industry in some ways, but a lot of it was done before, and just wasn't as hyped or popular.

I'm not disagreeing with you. All I'm saying is that the "innovations" that Bungie brought to the table were done before, but never took off. Bungie popularized these innovations.

Most people get confused with the "innovations" that Halo brought to the gaming world. Most games already did those type of stuff: regen life, two weapons, and yadayada ya. But, most games that had those features were pretty much bad games and how I know it is I like to discover new FPS games, and I would usually use Youtube to watch gameplay to decide myself if I should buy it or not. Not sure if I ever discovered any good games with these features, but Halo seems to be the first that I found. The original MOH had dual analog features. Halo is not the first "good multiplayer" since Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were pretty much taking peoples lives before Halo even existed, and for matchmaking, I guess Halo was the first to do that in consoles-I'm not sure. Oh and Bungie even stated they weren't sure if they were innovative with Halo. They basically thought Halo got big because of the advanced AI.
Still I give Halo a lot of credit for what its doing to the gaming world. Name me a popular shooter that actually did any of these features that Halo popularized: Shogo, Doom, Quake, Half-Life, System Shock 1-2, Deus Ex, Unreal Tournament, Quake 2, Quake 3, Soldier of Fortune, Medal of Honor, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Red Faction, AVP, Wolfenstein, Duke Nukem 3D, FEAR, and so on. That's all I can think of on the top of my head, and Halo is pretty "new" compared to all those games .So what I'm basically trying to say is it perfected console shooters by using subtle features that most good FPS games really did not want to use due to w/e reasons.

Halo made all those features popular...That's as good as inventing them IMO. If it wasn't for Halo, we would still have 6 weapons and pretty limited multiplayer.

I'm sorry but Socom was the first online game with a huge following on a console(selling almsot 3 million before Halo 2 was released), and while Halo 3 released before LBP, LBP announced level editors before Halo 3.
Sorry for bursting your bubble HJ.

Isn't Socom a TPS? And wtf? LBP's level editor is like day and night compared to Halo 3's forge. Again Halo didn't invent multiplayer OR map editors, it made them popular.
You know what the most annoying part is about the Halo hate? It's the accusations. I don't recall Bungie EVER making claims of them being the most innovative or anything like that.
Even if Halo is the most generic game on the planet, that's just more of a reason NOT to hate it. If you hate Halo because it's generic, THEN YOU F*CKING HATE THE GENRE!!

1st off, most socoms can be played in either 1st or 3rd person(not the ones made by Slant Shit)
2nd, LBP's level creator is leaps and bounds beyond forge, especially LBP2's. The only downside to LBP's is the fact that its hard for most ppl to make a good level.
3rd, tell me where I said I hated halo.

1st- again, no one claimed Halo was the first to be a decent multiplayer game. 2nd- Never said LBP's level creator is better or worse than forge. LBP is a platformer >.> There are no "maps" in LBPs, just levels. 3rd- I was directing my anger to Halo haters in general. I know you didn't say you hate Halo.

Ok, I'm glad your done with your raging, lol.
Anyway, arguements 2 and 3 are redundent. But my point with Arguement 1 is that Socom, not Halo, was the first cosole shooter to have a huge online following.

Halo 1 had a great following for multiplayer and it came out before Socom. Halo LAN multiplayer was very popular back in the day. Then Halo 2 released and it blew away every other multiplayer shooter on console because of it's matchmaking.

PS2 online was a joke. SOCOM may have had a online mulitplayer following, but Halo 2's online was what revolutionized console multiplayer forever.

Thats because Halo 2 had a unified service behind it unlike PS2's un-unified service. The only pro to Socom being with the un-unified service is the fact that the servers can be up as long as the developer wants. I think all 3 mainline socoms(maybee just 2 and 3) still have their servers up.

I'm not saying Bungie didn't influence the industry. They just didn't invent the things that did. It's like this: you, DemonWolf, and I are taking a test. I cheat off of him, and you cheat off of me. The Halo games are fun to play with friends but I wouldn't call them innovative ;P
